What are small, two-hole clay bricks? Why are they still the top choice for builders?
Small 2-hole brick Or what construction workers call... “"Standard bricks"” These are fired clay bricks that have been used in construction in Thailand for a long time. They are made from a mixture of clay and rice husks, then fired at temperatures of 700–800 degrees Celsius, resulting in red, strong, durable bricks that are familiar to builders throughout the country.
2 holes Drilling through the entire length of the block helps in three ways simultaneously: Reduce the weight of the brick. (From ~0.40 kg of solid brick to ~0.31 kg.) It can dissipate some heat. And most importantly, It helps the cement adhere better. When mortar seeps into the pores, the wall will adhere more firmly than solid brick and will not easily crumble.

Key features: Small, two-hole clay bricks (AY Contento)
The most affordable price — the best value.
It has the lowest price per block among all clay bricks, making it suitable for budget-conscious projects or those requiring large quantities and strict cost control.
So familiar — you can start immediately, no new learning required.
Standard bricks that every builder in Thailand is familiar with. No need to adjust building techniques, no learning curve, reducing the risk of errors from unfamiliar new types of bricks.
Excellent adhesion to cement — creates a strong and durable wall.
The two holes allow the mortar to penetrate and form a strong mechanical bond, superior to a smooth surface. The wall will not peel or flake, ensuring long-term durability.
Lighter than solid bricks — reduces structural load.
Weighing approximately 0.31 kg/block, it's about 20% lighter than solid bricks, reducing the overall wall weight and structural load. Suitable for applications requiring dead load control.

FAQ
Small blocks (3x6x14 cm) are cheaper and more familiar to builders, suitable for general projects where cost control is important. Larger blocks (e.g., 3-hole, 6x10x20 cm) are faster to lay and offer better thermal insulation, but are more expensive. If you have a limited budget and aren't in a hurry, choose the small blocks. If you want to save on labor costs in the long run, choose the large blocks.
When constructing a wall, the mortar seeps into the two interlocking spaces, creating a mechanical interlock or "lock" that firmly secures the bricks to the wall. The result is a wall that is more resistant to tensile and compressive forces than solid bricks where the mortar only adheres to the surface.
To build a 6 cm thick wall, approximately 120–130 bricks per square meter are needed (including ~1.5 cm mortar joints). It is recommended to order extra 5–7% to account for breakage and errors. Use our brick calculator.

Yes, clay bricks are stronger than lightweight concrete blocks. They can be drilled with a rotary drill and used with standard plugs and bolts, making them suitable for hanging objects, installing equipment, or running pipes inside walls.
